The History of
Sunset Banquet Hall
The Sunset Movie Theater, now housing the Sunset Banquet Hall, was built in 1951 as a state of the art single screen cinema, and it was one of the first to incorporate retail space along with the movie theater.
Although, the theater closed in 1968, you can still view the original glassed in “crying” room, several openings for cameras in the old film room, the original concession stand and the glass cases for movie posters.
Drs. Les and Courtney Ruthven purchased the building in 1996 for use as a multipurpose building, which has included the Wichita Table Tennis Center. Currently, the banquet space is completely open with eleven foot ceilings and no obstructions. The 8,000 sq. ft. Banquet room can accommodate up to 600 guests and we can provided tables and
chairs for your occasion. The hall has an open catering policy or we can assist you with your arrangements and securing a professional event planner.
Re-live old and fond memories with some of your guests, and create new memories for all of your guests at your next event at our historic location.
